The Government is committed to this project.
It will help more people explore the coastline, taking enjoyable outdoor exercise and will also encourage tourism, which supports local economies in coastal areas.
Good progress is being made. The Path has already been implemented on four stretches of the coast in Durham, Hartlepool and Sunderland, Cumbria, Norfolk and Dorset.
While there is no set timetable for the Path’s completion, the Government is introducing coastal access steadily, adapting the amount of activity to the resources available. We are applying lessons learned at earlier stages to make sure the project provides good value for taxpayers’ money.
