Thank you for contacting me about ending modern slavery. I share your concerns about unaccompanied and trafficked people, particularly children.
Britain launched a Call to Action in 2017 to eliminate modern slavery and human trafficking. More than 75 countries have now endorsed it, saying that they will not tolerate this exploitation and setting out practical actions that can be taken to make progress on this issue.
Having doubled overall UK aid spending on modern slavery to £150 million in 2017, this country has now gone even further, increasing total development spending to tackle the issue to £200 million.
But this is a global problem and the international community needs to work together to tackle predatory traffickers, support victims, strengthen justice systems and create sustainable alternatives to risky irregular migration, if we are to make real progress towards eliminating it.
