A number of constituents have contacted me about the renewal of the BBC’s Royal Charter. The Government’s BBC Charter Review Public Consultation closed in October. Over 190,000 people responded, which is the second largest response to any government consultation.
The Government is taking the responses extremely seriously and is in the process of reading and analysing all of them, reaching 150,000 in early January. It is incorrect to suggest the Government is trying to bury the responses. The volume of responses is proving a logistical challenge and it has taken longer than anticipated, but the Government has been clear that we will be publishing both a summary of the consultations and its proposals as soon as we can.
Information relating to the Charter Review is available on https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/bbc-charter-review.
