Derbyshire Dales Conservatives are continuing their campaign to keep Ashbourne and many nearby villages out of a new authority with the City of Derby, and stay with all areas of the Derbyshire Dales.
This campaign follows the Reform UK-led Derbyshire County Council putting forward an option for local government reform which would divide Derbyshire Dales. To read more on this: click here
Your local Conservatives Cllr Steve Bull, Cllr Stuart Lees and Cllr Anthony Bates have been leading the fight on behalf of concerned residents. Meanwhile, our Labour MP for the area, John Whitby, also sits on Derby City Council and has been missing in action in standing up for residents. Reform UK locally never told residents their plan for local government reform prior to the Derbyshire County Council elections, which took place on 1st May 2025, and have now dumped this option on us.
It's only Derbyshire Dales Conservatives who are standing up for Ashbourne and the many Parishes which could be absorbed into a new council with Derby. Our area does not belong with Derby. We belong with Derbyshire Dales as a rural town and rural villages, all with a unique identity.
Now the official consultation is out from Derbyshire County Council, residents are urged to submit their views. Please follow the link to have your say: click here
The consultation ends on 19th August at midnight.
