A number of constituents have been in contact about the proposals within the GP-led Hardwick and North Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Groups’ ‘Better Care Closer to Home’ consultation.
It is clear from the correspondence that I have received, that there is some confusion around some of the plans. If people would like more information on the plans, I would urge them to read the full document, either at their website, or by requesting a printed copy by calling 01246 514000.
It is important to make clear that the proposals have been put forward by local doctors and healthcare professionals who run the CCGs. The aim is to provide more care in or near to the patient’s home and offer more joined up services with social care and the voluntary sector. I have attended both public and private meetings with the CCG and I visited Newholme Hospital. On each occasion, it was emphasised that the same services will be provided, but at different locations.
While I support the principle of joining up health and social care and bringing it closer to home for patients, I share your concerns over the impact these changes will have on our communities and the people that rely on these services and I have expressed these to the CCG.
However, it is important to make clear that no decisions have yet been made and the CCGs are committed to consulting local residents before progressing with the plans. I am confident that this is a genuine consultation, and the CCGs are taking note of the concerns being expressed. GPs have also been consulted. Four years work was carried out by the CCG to prepare for this stage. In that period, every practice was invited to attend the meetings being held and of course, GPs are very welcome to take part now.
It is absolutely vital that local people participate in the consultation process, prior to the deadline at 12pm on Wednesday 5th October. Only by doing so can we make sure the CCGs are aware of the strength of feeling in our communities. To take part, they can either complete the online survey at www.joinedupcare.org.uk or write a letter to FREEPOST Better Care, North Derbyshire CCG Headquarters, Nightingale Close, Chesterfield, S41 7PF.
Finally, I would add that in my view the main issue is preserving the local services that patients and their carers rely on. To do that, it is crucial that our communities work together to ensure the best possible case is put forward for keeping these essential facilities available locally.
